.99 Review - Eric Church

.99 Review
Eric Church - Love Your Love the Most

The People's Take
THIS SONG IS GREAT (5 Stars) – IF THIS SONG ISNT A HIT, THEN YOUR NOT COUNTRY
-M-88

I'd expect better from Eric (2 Stars) – As much as I love Eric Church's music and would recomend it to anyone, I hate this song. It's a copy of "I love my old bird dog (and I love you too)." Whoever thought a girl would like being told that "I love nascar, but I love you the most" would make a girl swoon was very wrong. I would certainly hope you love your girl more than you love nascar....

My Take
Well, this is a kick in the balls. I was counting on Eric, whose debut album is one of my favorite commercial country releases in recent years, to be my first positive ".99 Review," but alas. Church is grinding hard for another hit, or at least some airplay, and it shows. Boy does it show. My stomach turned just three lines into the song as I realized Eric was listing, and I don't mean like a ship. Eric listed mama's cooking. Eric listed boots. Eric listed beer. Eric listed Nascar. I almost expected him to start listing his favorite list songs after a while. Now that's an idea for a song! The only redeeming factors in this tune are Eric's voice and the hope that maybe, just maybe, he is actually satirizing this type of song. Or maybe his mention of "Faulkner books" gave me a false impression of his intelligence. "Love Your Love the Most" rates an amazing 8 on "The Checklist," but only thirty-four cents on the value chart.

Total value: .34/.99

  1. This will be a tough one to beat as far as The Checklist goes.

Really liking the feature, by the way. It's definitely more entertaining than just a straight review.

  2. Oh, and I hadn't even noticed the photocrapped cover yet when I made that comment. Good stuff.

  3. Maybe he should have sung about loving this girl more than dying soldiers and getting kindly advice at a county fair.

  4. I've heard most of the new cd, and I will likely face the wrath of the "Church Choir" by saying this, but "Love Your Love the Most" is not my fave. Perhaps he is poking fun at love songs, and that would make the song somewhat of a parody. This truly is a fun song to hear live and watch the audience's reaction. Eric has a great talent as a songwriter, however, this song is tongue in cheek. It's just a fun listen and sing along. It might not be a "well written song", but it sure is entertaining - just like Eric Church. ~ SC

  5. I'd love to see him live and I'll be first in line for Carolina but I'm not at all impressed with this tune.

  7. That's cool! I thought you had the most level-headed review, so I had to include it.

  8. I liked Church's debut album quite a bit too, particularly "Livin' Part of Life" and "Two Pink Lines", but the first two songs from this upcoming album haven't impressed me at all. I'm still holding out hope for the guy though.

  9. Although this isn't my favorite song from the upcoming CD, I think it is a good "radio" song which is what is needed to get his name back out there - it has been a long time since his last CD.
