CD Giveaway: Turnpike Troubadors

Turnpike Troubadors Giveaway

The Turnpike Troubadors are a country outfit out of Oklahoma with a huge following across red dirt country. In fact, their album Diamonds and Gasoline won the Lone Star Music Award for best album of 2010. I mentioned on Twitter that I'd never heard the band, and @kelliegaston quickly remedied that. She hooked me up with a CD for myself and an extra one.

The Turnpike Troubadors have a laid back sound reminiscent of early Reckless Kelly and Steve Earle's more mellow work. It's an unpretentiously catchy album that sounds great in the car with the windows rolled down. If you want hipness-factor, alt-country's gritty defiance or the pop-ness of the current Nashville sound, you don't want this… otherwise, it's for you.

Good news: That extra CD is going to one of you! Just tell me your favorite musical troubadour in this post's comments, on Twitter or on Facebook, and I'll choose one entry to receive the album. It's that easy!

  2. Townes Van Zandt embodied everything about a troubadour, the good and the bad, so he gets my vote for favorite troubadour of all-time!

  3. well you can't really argue with TVZ, but i'll go with the protege Steve Earle. i like his songs better than townes' songs, and he has a show on satellite radio called "Hardcore Troubadour Radio" so fuck it, i win.

  4. I don't see how anyone could argue with Zandt or Earle, but we have to throw the Dust Bowl Troubadour's hat into the fire. It doesn't get any better than Woody Guthrie slinging his six string fascists killing machine.

  5. Gotta go with the Texas Troubadour himself, Mr. Ernest Tubb.

  7. Brother Kyle, besides providing a very worthy answer, your name was also drawn at random from the 8 entries. If you'll send your name and address to farcethemusic@gmail.com I'll send you a fresh new Turnpike Troubador's CD!
