10 Second Single Review: Darius Rucker - "Wagon Wheel"

This won't be a popular opinion, but I'm gonna say this Darius Rucker "Wagon Wheel" single is a good thing. It could whet appetites for rootsier music and it'll pay Bob Dylan and Ketch Secor. It's pretty bloodless and slick (what do you expect from a Nashville single?), but overall not a bad cover and Lady A doesn't ruin it as backup singers. Also, he didn't change "toke" to "smoke," which is a surprise, given radio's aversion to Eric Church's pot references.

  1. I heard it yesterday. I was kind of shocked that I didn't hate it. However, I have always loved Darius, I've always loved this song. Just didn't know if I'd like them both together, but I did. It's no OCMC, but it ain't bad.

  2. Thought the same thing when I heard the radio edit and that "Toke" was left in tact. Maybe because pot's legal in two states, it's ok? Next up? A "Frank Ocean" style song?...

  3. I like this song a lot, except for the unnecessary drug reference.

  4. Unfortunately, this will become the "Mustang Sally" of country music...
