Labor Day Songs w/Jason Isbell, Sammy Kershaw, etc.

Some songs and videos about the value of hard work (and/or the drudgery of a less-than-satisfying job) for you to listen to before celebrating all that hard work with a little cold brew and grilled meat. Enjoy!

(Side note: Can you believe Toby Keith released a song this dark as a single?)

If You're Gonna Play in Georgia... (Alabama Parody)

"If You're Gonna Play In Georgia
(You Gotta Have A DJ In The Band)"
(Parody of Alabama's "If You're Gonna Play in Texas (You Gotta Have a Fiddle in the Band)"
Idea adapted from Facebook post by Steven Pony Hill

If you're gonna play in Georgia, you gotta have a DJ in the band
That lead guitar's alright but son, not for a Leesburg man
So make that EQ bounce for "Country Girl" and let's all jam
If you're gonna play in Georgia, you gotta have a DJ in the band

I remember down in Macon we were playin' country songs
When a frat-boy in the back stood up and yelled, "Get Your Shine On!"
He said, "We hate what you're doin', we need the thump real strong,
Bro, that twang you're twangin' don't belong"

If you're gonna play in Georgia, you gotta have a DJ in the band
That lead guitar's alright but not for a Columbus man
So make that EQ bounce with some Colt Ford and let's all jam
If you're gonna play in Georgia, you gotta have a DJ in the band

So we flattened our cap brims and borrowed some sweet wallet chains
Them Georgians jumped and hollered when Jeff smiled and dropped the bass
You say y'all all wanna twerk it
You say ya wanna grind a ho'
Well, here's your douche-bag song before we go

If you're gonna play in Georgia, you gotta have a DJ in the band
That lead guitar's alright but son, not for a Smyrna man
So make them hotties bounce for "Bottoms Up" and let's all jam
If you're gonna play in Georgia, you gotta have a DJ in the band

If you're gonna play in Georgia, you gotta have a DJ in the band
That lead guitar's okay, but son, not for a Moultrie man
So make that EQ bounce for "Chillin' It" and let's all jam
If you're gonna play in Georgia, you gotta have a DJ in the band

New Music Out Today

I hope to review this one, but if I don't get around to it, just know that it's excellent.
Laid-back, groovy, southern folk-rocking goodness. It currently resides inside my top 5 for the year.
RIYL: Wilco, The Band, Govt Mule, North MS Allstars, Reckless Kelly.

This is a strong collection that defies the general assumption that tribute albums suck. There's not a weak song in the bunch, and the cuts I like most are from the artists I'm least familiar with. JD McPherson's soulful cover of "Why Lady Why" is my favorite at the moment, but Bob Schneider and Texas Bluegrass Massacre's cool take on "Lady Down on Love" is a close second. There are also big name Americana/Alt-country artists like Jason Isbell, Lucero and Turnpike Troubadours in the mix, so really, there's something for everybody who's a frequent FTM reader.
RIYL: Alabama or any of the artists on the tribute, obviously.

The under-appreciated Godfather of swamp-soul has still got it.
RIYL: Otis Redding, Ry Cooder, North MS Allstars, Guy Clark, Mavis Staples.
