My review of Taylor Swift's Grammy performance

*Yeah, the moratorium on dissing her vocals is over.

  1. The girl can't sing outside of a carefully controlled and engineered studio session. That's not an artist, that's a fraud.

Also, young and slender does not automatically = pretty. Take a close look people, her face is jacked up. I'm so sick of the media and PR creations that pass themselves off as musical artists.

    1. And look at her now, 2 years later and she is one of the most famous singers out there! She wrote a song about people like you. And by the way, she is beautiful inside and out.

  2. OK, it was bad, but not completely unlistenable (yeah, I know how that sounds). For me, the fact that she did the Butch Walker version of "You Belong With Me" totally redeemed it. That was cool.

  3. She was horrible. Outclassed by every other singer. Not only did she miss many notes (beyond being "pitchy"), she does not have the range, original tone or power that Beyonce, Jennifer Nettles and even Pink have. Nettles was amazing! You don't get up there with Stevie Nicks and blow it. Did you see the look on Stevie's face?

Swift has proven herself as a pop country song writer. She should write songs for others who have truly impressive singing voices. My bet is she won't last over the long term as a singer.

  4. Can't understan how this girl is famous. The gaul to be on stage with a icon like Stevie Nicks. She was a joke. Love to hear what Simon would say about her performance. "That was bloodly awful". Has anyone heard the new Dave Matthew's Band CD. Great writters and can perform live. If you can't do that get off the stage Mrs. Swift!

  5. She was awful. Out of pitch off and on the whole time. Poor Stevie it's hard to harmonize with someone who is singing off key. She just doesn't have that much voice.

  7. Taylor isn't successful. Her PR team is successful. That girl is a puppet and a great actress...except when it comes time to accepting awards.

  8. Taylor Swift was disappointing. Very few of today's recording stars can pull off a great live performance because many of them have average sounding voices. Average doesn't cut it in a live performance.

  9. Taylor Swift: singlehandedly keeping the autotuner industry afloat since 2006.

  10. yes I'm sorry but if she deserved a grammy for lyrics, no problem. Listening to her was like one of those joke American Idol singers they pepper the show with to illustrate who does and does not belong.

Sorry honey..."maybe singing isn't for you dawg."

  11. My 6 year old daughter watched it this morning (we recorded it for her) and she said, "mamma I am glad we didn't get tickets to see her, she sounds really bad." That coming from the girl who knows every song. Too, bad. There is another new vocal coming up in Nashville and she may be the one to give Taylor Swift a run for her money, Kate Lazar. While we will still be Taylor Swift fans, her grammy performance made me realize that the mixers in the studio are the real stars.

  12. To the third anonymous up, I guess you haven't heard T-Pain, Jamie Foxx, Kanye West, R. Kelly, or any other hip-hop artist recently?

  13. To the last anon poster: If Taylor is really this bad, why would anyone want to give her a run for her money? I don't understand the wanting to be compared to Taylor Swift thing that so many young girls are doing? Taylor has only been in the business for 3 years, if that and in the last year she's gone up up and up. The only way to go now is down because of how far people have elevated her. So if she can only last for a year, why would you want to follow in her footsteps? That would mean you'd have one great year of success and then there would be someone else on your heels.

If the music industry has taught us anything these last 10 years, it's that a lot of people ride the 15 minute train and then are forgotten because a new batch of 15 minuters are coming up the track. If this Kate Lazar wants a career and be a country singer like Taylor Swift, she should pick someone with longevity to give them a run for their money, like Shania Twain or Faith Hill.

  14. The real deal in Nashville is 15 year old Jordyn Shellhart. Rock solid vocals like a young Martina McBride. No stupid stage moves. Grounded. Getting her writing chops. Seriously, Jordy sings rings around Taylor Swift.

  15. I've listened to singers in the local church who sound FAR better than Swift.

  16. I'm afraid I have to agree with the critics of Taylor Swift's performance at the Grammys. She cannot sing. I don't care if her earpiece was malfunctioning (her producers said that was the cause)....she couldn't hold a tune. It was disturbing that someone with that poor ability to hold a tune could win top album. Fans can love her, I don't care, but I've given up on the music industry if this is the best live performance they can offer as 'the best'. It was embarrassing to listen to.

  17. Taylor Swift in one year has desecrated any value that a Female Vocalist award once had.

  25. It's cute that just because you are anon you think you can get away with insults on her. You will go to hell for your hate. You should get a brain, some ears and eyes and realize she is beautiful inside and out. Her voice is angelic and has been and always will be.

  26. I'm not anonymous - my name is on the site in a few places - though I'm not handing out my phone number or anything. I'll stand for what I say. If you'd notice, this is pretty old. I don't make much fun of Taylor anymore because I actually do respect her even though I'm not a fan. And she's, sadly, more country than a lot of what's on the radio now.
