I don't think the behavior of Hank Sr is any way more evolved than the behavior of Luke Bryan and FGL. Sure, the picture on the right looks absurd, but if there were photographs of half the crap Williams pulled, Bryan and FGL might come out looking good.
Lets not forget too that in the 1950s and 1960s more than a few country singers showed up totally drunk for concerts, if they showed up at all.
In any case, the most "evolved" of the people in these pictures is probably George Strait. As far as anyone knows, George Strait is not just a good singer but a decent human being. He appears not to behave in the downright destructive ways of Cash, Hank Sr and Jennings. And of course Strait is more recent than the other singers (except Bryan and FGL).
I think you are missing the point. We are talking about music, not comparing the artists' personal lives.
When people criticize the quality or genre-appropriateness of groups like Florida Georgia Line, their fans respond by saying that "country music must evolve."
If "country music" as presented by corporate radio us evolving, it is evolving to be stupider.
I'll abide a little rock n roll guitar in my country, but I still prefer the solos to be steel guitar or fiddle dominant. All the electro-fancy gizmos and processors and effects are better left to other styles, and there's no place for rap in country.
Country is evolving just like "metal" did in the 80s but unlike the 80s, those hair bands could back up the stupidity of their lyrics with great musicianship, the current mainstream artists can barely play 3 chords. Country needs their version of Nirvana to happen with the quickness.
