Eric Church - Love Your Love the Most
The People's Take
THIS SONG IS GREAT (5 Stars) – IF THIS SONG ISNT A HIT, THEN YOUR NOT COUNTRY
-M-88
I'd expect better from Eric (2 Stars) – As much as I love Eric Church's music and would recomend it to anyone, I hate this song. It's a copy of "I love my old bird dog (and I love you too)." Whoever thought a girl would like being told that "I love nascar, but I love you the most" would make a girl swoon was very wrong. I would certainly hope you love your girl more than you love nascar....

My Take
Well, this is a kick in the balls. I was counting on Eric, whose debut album is one of my favorite commercial country releases in recent years, to be my first positive ".99 Review," but alas. Church is grinding hard for another hit, or at least some airplay, and it shows. Boy does it show. My stomach turned just three lines into the song as I realized Eric was listing, and I don't mean like a ship. Eric listed mama's cooking. Eric listed boots. Eric listed beer. Eric listed Nascar. I almost expected him to start listing his favorite list songs after a while. Now that's an idea for a song! The only redeeming factors in this tune are Eric's voice and the hope that maybe, just maybe, he is actually satirizing this type of song. Or maybe his mention of "Faulkner books" gave me a false impression of his intelligence. "Love Your Love the Most" rates an amazing 8 on "The Checklist," but only thirty-four cents on the value chart.

This is cool
I've heard country and rap mixed together before, mostly to horrible effect (I'm looking at you, CBT), but this is completely different, in sound and artistic merit. Gangstagrass is a mash up of real hip-hop and bluegrass (and some country blues). It's not as gimmicky as early attempts at this blend, and all genres are strongly presented in their use. Be warned that the hip-hop is gritty and explicit, but this is a unique and interesting sound for sure! The album is posted free here: http://gangstagrass.com/

I actually like George but...
...the picture of him pulling on that locked door at that China press conference was too good not to Photocrap.
