How the Cake is Cut

  1. This meme is right, country radio would much rather play the same old bro-country dreck about sexy girls, beer, trucks, and house parties, overlaid with non-country instrumentation like snap beats, R&B grooves, and hair metal guitars. And despite some decent mainstream artists like Luke Combs, Eric Church, and Chris Stapleton, real country music and deep songs are largely ignored in favor of the aforementioned bro-country music. To paraphrase the late great Merle Haggard, the good times are over for mainstream country music and the genre is rolling downhill like a snowball headed for hell. And the sad irony is that the very man responsible for this mess, Alan Jackson (aka the Nickelback of country music), is viewed as a traditional country artist in the vein of Merle Haggard, George Strait, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Randy Travis, and David Allan Coe. Funny, because I don't recall any of those artists (at least to any significant degree) not only living up to negative stereotypes of the genre (i.e., "It's Alright to Be a Redneck", "I Still Like Bologna", "Jim and Jack and Hank", and that stupid 9/11-exploiting song where he couldn't tell the difference between Iraq and Iran), but (more importantly) also setting the genesis for bro-country (see "Chattahoochee", "Country Boy", and "Where I Come From") and covering multiple rap songs in concert, specifically
    * Akon - Don't Matter
    * Wiz Khalifa - We Dem Boyz ( video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFOtWpul3ZY )
    * Tyga - Hookah
    * Soulja Boy - Turn My Swag On
    * Soulja Boy - I Got that Sauce
    * Future - Mask Off
    * Flo Rida - Whistle
    * T.I. - Whatever You Like
    * Big Sean ft. Nicki Minaj - Dance (A$$)
    * Lil Wayne - Love Me
    * Drake - Passionfruit
    * Offset - Ric Flair Drip
    * Waka Flocka Flame - Hard in da Paint
    * Shaquille O'Neal - (I Know I Got) Skillz
    * Fetty Wap - Jugg
    As much as I enjoy Farce the Music's memes mocking the dire situation that mainstream country music is currently in, it's very pathetic that Trailer still views the man who ruined mainstream country music - Alan Jackson AKA the Nickelback of country music - as real country music. Like I mentioned many times before, without Alan Jackson, there wouldn't be country radio ignoring real country music for hip-hop and hair metal inspired bro-country songs about sexy girls, beer, trucks, and house parties, as well as bro-country hacks like Luke Bryan, FGL, Kane Brown, and Cole Swindell, nor would there be Bebe Rexha holding the record for the longest running number one country song ("Meant to Be") at 50 weeks or Lil Nas X going viral with his country rap hit "Old Town Road" on the number one spot on the Hot 100 and likely to make a comeback on the country charts. Bro-country, rap country, Bebe Rexha and her song "Meant to Be", and Lil Nas X and his song "Old Town Road" are but the apocalyptic aftermath of what Alan Jackson (aka the Nickelback of country music) did to mainstream country music.
