What is: the country music business?
I agree, the Nickelback of country music is nothing but a load of crap. And no, it's not his song "I'll Try" (a stereotypical bro-country song thinly disguised as a sentimental love song), but virtually every song he's ever released. And "I'll Try" is far from the biggest "load of crap" released by the Nickelback of country music, as Alan Jackson has also helped cement the stereotype that country music that country music is made for trailer-dwelling redneck simpletons (especially "It's Alright to Be a Redneck", "I Still Like Bologna", and that stupid 9/11-exploiting song where he couldn't tell the difference between Iraq and Iran). And it was this living up to stereotypes that led to Jackson being the inventor of bro-country, metro-bro, and boyfriend country (as exemplified in his [s]hits like "Chattahoochee", "Where I Come From", and "Country Boy"), leading to the mess that mainstream country is today. Although there are still good mainstream country artists (such as Luke Combs, Jon Pardi, Eric Church, and Chris Stapleton), mainstream country for the most part continues to be dominated by overrated and underhated bro-country/metro-bro/boyfriend country acts like Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line, Kane Brown, Sam Hunt, and Dan + Shay. Meanwhile, pop singer Bebe Rexha holds the record for the longest running number one country song at 50 weeks due to her collaboration with bro-country duo Florida Georgia Line. All the apocalyptic aftermath of what Alan Jackson (the Nickelback of country music) did to this once-proud genre. If anyone ever tells you that Alan Jackson is some sort of traditional country legend, "Well, that's a load of crap" would be the perfect response. Due to what he did to destroy this genre, Jackson (and the bro-country, metro-bro, and boyfriend country acts whose careers his "music" helped spawn) will instead more likely be remembered as a laughing stock like Nickelback and St. Anger. Mark my words...
ReplyDeleteAs for Alan Jackson's alleged cover of "We Dem Boyz" ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFOtWpul3ZY ), the video was filmed over an Alan Jackson concert to make it look like Alan Jackson was doing a cover of Wiz Khalifa's "We Dem Boyz", while in reality, he was really playing "Remember When" while a Florida Georgia Line cover of the Wiz Khalifa song played on my two Sony stereos (Sony MHC-GX450 and Sony LBT-GPX77) in the background.
