Who You Gonna Call?

  1. While I have no doubt that George Strait is a country legend, the murderer on music row is right next to him in that picture - namely, Alan Jackson AKA the Nickelback of country music. Whereas George Strait (and his contemporaries such as Randy Travis, Radney Foster, and Dwight Yoakam) worked to maintain the genre's integrity, the Nickelback of country music did the exact opposite. Not only did Alan Jackson solidify country music's reputation as a laughing stock (especially in songs like "It's Alright to Be a Redneck", "I Still Like Bologna", and especially that stupid 9/11-exploiting song where he couldn't tell the difference between Iraq and Iran), but it was also none other than Jackson who invented the bro-country/metro-bro/hick-hop/boyfriend country currently dominating mainstream country (see Jackson's songs "Country Boy", "Chattahoochee", and "Where I Come From"). With that in mind, I'm still utterly baffled as to why George Strait (rightfully one of the most legendary artists in country music history alongside other greats like Willie Nelson, Hank Williams, and Johnny Cash) chose to collaborate with such a disgrace to country music like Alan Jackson.

When he sang "Murder on Music Row", George Strait was sincere in his conviction that country music had been destroyed and its integrity ruined. However, when the Nickelback of country music sang "Murder on Music Row" he was simply gloating about his own crime. Think about it as the country version of Gun Rack's song "I Killed Darnell Simmons" from Key and Peele's sketch "Rap Album Confessions". Bro-country/metro-bro/hick-hop/boyfriend country acts like Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line, Kane Brown, and Sam Hunt, as well as the fact that pop singer Bebe Rexha's collaboration with bro-country duo Florida Georgia Line currently holds the record for the longest running number one country song at 50 weeks, are all the apocalyptic aftermath of what Alan Jackson (the Nickelback of country music) did to murder country music. If there was an uprising of dead country legends to put a stop to what Jackson has done to country music, Merle Haggard would go straight for the Nickelback of country music and slap him like how Moe Howard slapped Larry, Curly, and Shemp in the Three Stooges. Instead of "Murder on Music Row", given his (well-deserved) reputation as the Nickelback of country music, Jackson might as well have been singing "How You Remind Me".

As for Alan Jackson's alleged cover of "We Dem Boyz" ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFOtWpul3ZY ), the video was filmed over an Alan Jackson concert to make it look like Alan Jackson was doing a cover of Wiz Khalifa's "We Dem Boyz", while in reality, he was really playing "Remember When" while a Florida Georgia Line cover of the Wiz Khalifa song played on my two Sony stereos (Sony MHC-GX450 and Sony LBT-GPX77) in the background.
