Blue Christmas: A Farce the Music Sad Christmas Playlist

There's nothing like a sad Christmas song to mirror the dull, cold weather outside this time of year. Sure, Christmas is a joyous time of year, but not for everybody… and if you're like me, a little gray feels just right mixed in with the green and gold and red. The Spotify playlist is below.

James Brown – Please Come Home For Christmas
Dolly Parton – Hard Candy Christmas
Marty Stuart – Even Santa Claus Gets The Blues

The O'Jays – Christmas Ain't Christmas, New Years Ain't New Years Without The One You Love
Kelly Willis & Bruce Robison – In The Bleak Midwinter
Sufjan Stevens – Did I Make You Cry On Christmas Day? (Well, You Deserved It!)
Darlene Love – Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)
Bob Schneider – Fairytale of New York
John Denver – Please, Daddy (Don't Get Drunk This Christmas)
Cat Power – Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
Willie Nelson – Christmas Blues
John Prine – Christmas In Prison
The Civil Wars – Tracks In the Snow
George Strait – What A Merry Christmas This Could Be

Friday Mixtape: Music From the Hospitality State

Mississippi is the birthplace of America's music. Don't believe me? Just look at that road sign. Whether you believe that or not (if you don't, you're wrong), we're still the home of a surprisingly lively and vital music scene despite our meager resources and relatively small population. Here's a playlist of current artists born in Mississippi. There are big time artists (Randy Houser, Rae Sremmurd, Jimmy Buffett), up-and-comers (William Michael Morgan, Dream Cult) and several from the roots realm who we cover fairly regularly (Water Liars, Jason Eady, Cory Brannan, Jimbo Mathus). Hip-hop, Americana, blues, country, indie rock... a little bit of everything. I didn't include Charley Pride or Faith Hill because I'm just not sure their status in regards to putting out new music. Anyway, enjoy! The Spotify playlist appears below the screen captures of the playlist.
