Alan Jackson to Release 2000s Hip-Hop Covers Album

Country music legend Alan Jackson plans to follow up his 2015 album Angels and Alcohol with a unique and unexpected release. It's called Crunktry, and well… we'll explain in a moment.

No longer burdened by the expectations and limitations of recording music for country radio, which has in recent years moved on to younger and more pop-leaning artists, Jackson is now free to pursue his passions and whims. Surprisingly, one of those passions is rap music from the 2000s, and he'll indulge that passion with a full album of hip-hop cover songs.

"Well, I'll always be a country man," laughed the long tall country legend. "But when my two older daughters were teens, all they listened to was rap and hip-hop." "I kinda developed a love for it, you know what I'm sayin'? I can get a lil crunk, son."

Jackson revealed that all 10 covers will be country arrangements with all lyrics sung in his warm baritone. The one original song on the album, "TV Dinner and a 40 oz" (co-written with Colt Ford) is the lone rap tune of the collection, with Jackson "flowing" and "dropping bars" about his typical 'aw shucks' everyman lifestyle.

"There are a few folks out there who think I ruined country music, I mean they're nuts obviously, but I thought 'hell, I'll give 'em more fuel'" said Jackson. "I'm comfortable enough and established enough to do what I want now, so I'm brushing off the haters."

Alan told us that while he won't be singing any offensive racial terms, everything else stays in. "Crunktry is my chance to just have fun and stretch out my legs a little; I know it'll offend some people, but we're all grown-ups… it's not like you haven't heard something like 'Do you want it from the back with your face In the pillow" before. Come on people, don't be a lame."

At press time, Alan had revealed a few of the lyrics to his self-penned rap song "TV Dinner and a 40 oz" (below).

Alan Jackson - Crunktry
Track listing:
"Get Low"
"In Da Club"
"Where the Party At"
"Stay Fly"
"Throw Some D's"
"Freek-A-Leek"
"Hey Ma"
"Lean With It, Rock Wit It"
"We Dem Boyz"
"Don't Matter"

"TV Dinner and a 40 oz"

I got that hunger man
I got that hungry man
I got that 40 man
I got my shorty man

My ride ain't got much shine

Speakers crack, gas pedal whines
Got them shocks that squeak and bounce
But I got my TV dinner and my 40 ounce

Game of Thrones: Country Reaction Gifs

You're a huge country fan too?
Like Old Dominion and Sam Hunt...

To those who think FTM is crass and overly negative:

"Alan Jackson killed country music. And covered Akon in concert"

When a pop-country fan awakens to the wonders
of country music they don't play on the radio

When Jon Snow says he knows his country,
but can't name a Roger Miller song

You seriously think Thomas Rhett is
a better vocalist than Chris Stapleton?

When you're late to the show and Isbell is about to go on...

Wishing Sam Hunt would meet this guy in a dark alley

Oh, you think Alan Jackson ruined country music?

Mr. Radio Man, please play my new single

When you hear "Body Like a Back Road"
playing in an ambulance

 Hey, Kane Brown fans...

Don't Luke the Jukebox

 "Don't Luke The Jukebox"
(Parody of Alan Jackson's "Don't Rock the Jukebox")

Don't Luke the jukebox
I'd rather hear some Coe
My ears ain't ready
For a dancing bro
I don't feel like shakin'
Or kickin' up some dust
So don't Luke the jukebox
Cause he really sucks

Before you punch that button
Best be thinking twice
You got a cranky hillbilly
Givin' mad dog eyes
I'm in the mood for country
Not that new school mess
Before you crash my party
Could I make one request

Don't Luke the jukebox
I'd rather hear some Strait
Son, I've been drinking
And I might get irate
I don't feel like shakin'
Or kickin' up some dust
So don't Luke the jukebox
Cause he really sucks

Man I like hip-hop
I like rock and roll
But when Luke Bryan starts singing
Just don't hear any soul
Ain't nothin' like Stapleton
Waylon or Jerry Lee
Before you waste your money brother
Do one thing for me

Don't Luke the jukebox
I'd rather hear some Cash
I don't like fighting
But I'd whip your ass
I might be a buzzkill
But I'mma tell you what
Don't Luke the jukebox
Cause he really sucks
