The Current Poop of Mainstream Country: July '19

A poop emoji is negative; a strike-thru is positive.

The current Poop Rating of the Mediabase Top 20 is (-10) overall which is a 6 point improvement from January (the previous time we did this chart). The best song on the chart is Eric Church’s “Some of It.”  The worst is Thomas Rhett’s “Look What God Gave Her” (though there is very stiff competition from FGL and Luke Bryan). The biggest surprise for me is that Keith Urban’s current single isn’t too bad. I can’t remember the last time one of his singles wasn’t unlistenable pop dreck. Women are faring a little better on the chart now, but only marginally.

The Current Poop of Country Music (June '17)

A poop emoji equals a negative rating. A strike-thru poop emoji is a positive rating.

The current Poop Rating of the Mediabase Top 20 is (-29) overall which is a hefty 29 point drop (!!!!!) from last October (the last time we did this chart). The best song is Midland's "Drinkin' Problem." The worst is Dylan Scott's substandard bro-country-lite "My Girl." Not only is the Top 20 really pathetic, there is not a single solo female in the bunch.

Things are bad.

Most Added Poop at Country Radio

The "most added" singles list every week highlights new and rising songs that country radio listeners will hear for weeks (and sometimes months or years) to come. Similar to our "Current Poop of Country Radio," here's Trailer's ratings for this week's add leaders. Data from Country Aircheck. Poop from us. (Poop emoji=bad, Anti-poop emoji=good)

The rating for this first week of our list is scary bad. I weep for the future. The score is -20. My favorite tune on this list is Zac Brown's new "My Old Man," which is a subtle and welcome return to ZBB's signature sound. My least favorite song is Sam Hunt's "Body Like a Back Road," but it has serious competition for biggest turd. This was easily one of my most unpleasant listening experiences in nearly 9 years of running Farce the Music. I thought radio was supposed to be getting better, but if this is any sign, they're at the bottom and digging deeper.

The Current Poop of Mainstream Country Music

A ratings system based on poop emojis seems right in our wheelhouse, so here you go. This is the current Mediabase Top 20 country songs. Poop is bad. Not-Poop is good. The potential worst rating is 5 poop emojis. The potential best is 5 not-poop emojis. Here's Trailer's opinion of each song. Enjoy!     (...?)

The inaugural Poop Rating of the Mediabase Top 20 is 5 POOP EMOJIS (or -5) overall. Please read Country Perspective's Current Pulse for a different perspective, more class, and better insight.
